According to a new Pew Research Center survey conducted in April, roughly half of U.S. adults have said that the internet “has been essential for them personally during the pandemic.” ¹

With the immediate need for contactless services and communication, it comes as no surprise that the internet has become an even more vital part of our everyday lives. Digital applications such as DocuSign, which allows you to electronically sign documents, or Microsoft Teams, which allows you to initiate video conferencing at the click of a button, have become staples in maintaining both personal and professional relationships.

In this increasingly digital world, Capstone has continued to look for innovative ways to service our clients. This is especially true today, given the ever-evolving situation with the pandemic. As such, we are committed to protecting your cyber security against threats, while providing tools that streamline account processes and enhance your overall experience at Schwab. By introducing you to digital tools, we are happy to help you save time, improve accuracy, all while safeguarding your personal information with advanced security features such as “two-factor authentication.”

Whether you are completely new to digital workflows or have been using your online Schwab login for some time, we are ready to meet your needs at any level. Schwab currently offers the following digital enhancements for all account holders:

  • Online Access via your Schwab Login ID: Easily view and manage account details with secure and on-demand online access.

  • E-Signature and Digital Account Opening: Sign forms and open accounts electronically to improve processing times and data accuracy.

  • E-Authorization: Approve money movements electronically for a more secure, paper-free experience that allows for faster processing times.

  • Schwab Mobile App: Conveniently approve requests, deposit checks, or view your account from your mobile devices.

These contact-free and paperless digital workflows allow you to protect yourself during the pandemic, while giving us the ability to service all your account needs without interruption. These digital workflows also give you even more control as an account holder, by providing instant access to account details and statements, as well as the ability to update contact information or approve money movements on-the-go.

Finally, to safeguard your personal data, Schwab provides online account users with heightened security features such as two-factor authentication and device authentication.

Two-factor authentication (abbreviated as “2FA”) adds a second layer of authentication when logging into an online account. Once two-factor authentication is enabled, users are prompted to enter a second credential after successfully entering their login ID and password. This second credential could be one of three things²:

  1. Something you know – A personal identification number (PIN), another password, answers to questions or a pattern

  2. Something you have – An item you have in possession, such as a credit card or key fob device

  3. Something you are – A biometric, such as a scan of your fingerprint or face

To further enhance security, one could pair two-factor authentication with “device authentication.” Device authentication prompts users to enter an additional credential any time they log into their online account from a new electronic device. This serves as a preventative measure against hackers who may try to access your online account from their own phone or computer.

While the pandemic has altered the world in many ways, Capstone is prepared to help our clients adapt to these changes as it relates to their financial lives. If you are interested in signing up for any of the Schwab features listed above or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to your service team. As always, we are here to help you navigate the “new normal”—and its digital landscape—during these unprecedented times.
