Senior Wealth Advisor with a Family Office Specialty

Capstone Financial Advisors has an immediate opening for a Senior Wealth Advisor with a Family Office Specialty with ten or more years of relevant experience.

About the Role

Senior Wealth Advisors are the primary managers of the client relationship and are the most experienced advisors at the firm. The position has responsibility for managing existing client relationships and formulating and implementing comprehensive financial planning advice. Senior Wealth Advisors are also expected to develop new client relationships and, in addition, serve as a technical resource to the firm and mentor/develop staff in client service delivery.  The Senior Wealth Advisor with a Family Office Specialty supports both larger core clients and the firm’s most sophisticated family office clients, expanding the firm’s service model though a deeper and broader scope of advice, planning, and relationship management. The focus of this role is to provide technical, operational, and relationship management support to a select group of the firm’s largest and most complex clients.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Advisory

  • Assist in helping families to formalize and achieve financial objectives

  • Prepare and maintain detailed reports and documentation across all planning areas

  • Help to analyze financial and wealth management models across all planning areas

  • Support the implementation of recommendations across all planning areas

Tax Compliance and Planning

  • Support the review of individual, trust and business entity tax returns

  • Help monitor changes in tax regulations and ensure families remain in proper compliance

  • Support tax planning strategies from both an income and estate tax perspective

  • Interface with tax preparers and external service providers for tax-related matters

Investment Management

  • Oversee overall portfolio construction in a manner consistent with firm and family investment philosophy

  • Monitor asset allocation and asset placement across various family investment and estate planning vehicles to ensure adherence to overall model targets

  • Support selection and implementation of investment strategies across various asset classes (stocks, bonds, real assets, etc.), including both public market and private market holdings, as determined in coordination with the firm’s CIO

  • Conduct due diligence on public market and private market family-sourced investment opportunities in coordination with the firm’s CIO

Legal, Estate and Compliance Analysis

  • Review and analyze legal agreements related to trusts and business entities, business operations, investments, and other financial-related legal matters

  • Work with outside legal counsel to assist in preparing and managing documents related to wealth transfer strategies, including estate and gift planning

  • Support the execution of wealth transfer plans and communications with heirs and other beneficiaries

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with business and entity registrations and regulatory reporting requirements

Risk Management and Insurance

  • Analyze exposure across various assets (real estate, personal property, business holdings, etc.)

  • Coordinate with outside professionals to ensure appropriate property insurance coverage for homes, vehicles, yachts, aircraft, and other high-value items; proper liability insurance for personal and professional liability risks, and proper business insurance for family-owned businesses

Cash Flow and Liquidity Management

  • Ensure adequate liquidity reserves for the families’ day-to-day needs, planned and unplanned lifestyle expenses, and periodic capital investments

  • Closely monitor and plan for cash flow needs for specific bill payment managed by the firm on behalf of the families, household-related expenses, and other operational expenses

  • Work with administrative and operational support team members to manage bookkeeping tasks and ensure timely and accurate processing of payments

Family Governance and Succession Planning

  • Help organize and document family meetings and discussions

  • Assist in strategy discussions related to management and control of family-owned businesses

  • Support the implementation of philanthropic goals through foundations and donor-advised funds

  • Assist with analysis and discussions regarding succession planning

  • Act as a conduit for family stewardship objectives to be passed between generations

  • Mentor, educate and build relationships with second-generation family members

  • Work directly with second-generation family members on their separate planning needs

 Required Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to manage the most complex ultra-high net worth clients in a family office environment

  • Must be technically proficient, critically-thinking, relationship-oriented, advocacy-minded, passionate about the service model and have excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with advisory and operational team, senior management, and external professionals

Education and Experience

  • Seven or more years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting suggested

  • JD and/or CPA preferred, CFP a plus
